Artificial Intelligence and Surgical Research: New Area to Explore
The ESCP cohort studies team have established a new collaboration with the University Basel (Department of biomedical engineering) and Cantonal Hospital Baselland. In this collaboration, data is shared with researchers to be used in an international multicenter study about “Development of a Machine Learning-Based Model to Optimize Anastomosis Configuration in Right Hemicolectomy for Minimizing Postoperative Anastomotic Leakage”. This study aims to develop a machine learning-based model to choose the best anastomosis configuration, thereby minimizing the risk of complications.
This study will add to the research profile of the ESCP and shed light on this topic from another angle. The EAGLE 1 study has done this using another approach, while EAGLE 2 takes a third approach. Combining these studies will provide insights about anastomotic leak in Right Hemicolectomy.
Contributors to the ESCP database will be PubMed indexed co-authors according to the well-established ESCP cohort studies policy. If you are considering research based on data collected through the ESCP audits, please contact
