"How to Peer Review" Course | Tuesday 24 September 2024 | 16:00 - 19:00 EEST | Venue: HelExpo | Room: Fillippos


This course is designed for those interested in taking up the role of peer-reviewer or people who have recently embarked on doing peer-reviews, to have an opportunity to polish their skills through interactive discussion with others and feedback from the current editors. Candidates preparing for academic component of EBSQ and keen to develop skills of critiquing will also benefit from this course.

There will be a requirement to compete pre-course homework of reading and critiquing three papers online. On the day of the group course / workshop, you will have an opportunity to discuss your peer-review outcome with your fellow participants and the editor. There will be a maximum of four participants per editor to ensure deep-dive into peer-review and interactive discussion.

Fee: €20 (excluding VAT).

Course Programme

Introduction (20 minutes)

Meet the editors, lecture of concepts of peer-review, house keeping.

16:20 - 18:35

Group Workshop (2 hours and 15 minutes)

The delegates will be divided into 4 groups, meeting 3 different editors.
The ratio of editor to delegate will be maximum 1 to 5.
During this interactive session, we will go through 3 different types of manuscripts and discuss the key points of peer-reviewing and how to provide constructive feedback.

18:35 - 19:00

Wrap-up (25 minutes)

We will sum up the day, with a lecture on the current landscape of peer-review.
