Course details

Target audience: Trainees in first 2-3 years of training

Experience required: should be proficient in basic laparoscopic skills such as appendicetomy. Should have started to perform laparoscopic right hemicolectomy under supervision

Learning objectives: acquire operative techniques and appreciation of surgical strategies to allow candidate to progress right hemicolectomy, splenic flexure mobilisation and initial upper rectal mobilisation.

Number of delegates: 24

Faculty: 7 (from ESCP membership)

Course curriculum

Expert lectures and hands on operating on cadaver models.

It is envisaged that the delegates will be in 2 groups of 12. Each group with have a session with expert lectures and a session on the cadaver models.

Short lectures from faculty 'How I do it' highlighting operative technique and strategy. Hands on practical sessions with candidates in pairs in cadaver lab. It is also hoped that there will be a dry lab for suturing skills etc. Faculty in labs passing between candidate pairs offering expert advice and instruction. Aim to maximise time in labs.
