Tuesday 24 September
This skills lab is reserved for 12 participants with expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. Early experience in robotic surgery and access to a robotic system in daily practice are highly recommended.
Wednesday 25 September
This skills lab is reserved for 8 participants with expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. Early experience in robotic surgery and access to a robotic system in daily practice are highly recommended.
Brief description
We are facing continuous technical innovations in the field of colorectal surgery. Robotic Systems are more accessible than previously and one of the main indications in the treatment of colorectal diseases such as complex rectal or colon cancer, diverticular disease or inflammatory bowel disease. This skills lab offers the opportunity to learn the principles of innovative techniques including Robotic TME, Robotic CME and Intracorporeal Anastomosis (ICA).
Course content
The one-day course comprises theoretical instructions and practical exercises for the safe and effective application of colorectal robotic surgery in the field of colon and rectal resections, including vascular dissection, bowel transection and ICA.
Learning objectives
Attendees should gain the following:
- Knowledge of Robotic Surgery, current platforms, current evidence, indications.
- Tips and tricks to develop a safe learning curve.
- Learn about the technical challenges and the application of the devices for the robotic approach (port and docking).
- Develop skills in a Virtual Simulation Model.
- Gain initial insights, using an animal model, in how to perform Robotic Sigmoidectomy and a Right Colectomy with Intracorporeal Anastomosis.
Hands-on exercises
Duration of exercises for each participant:
- Simulator: basic and procedural skills (60 min)
- Robotic Sigmoidectomy (60 min)
- Robotic Right Colectomy and ICA (60 min)
