As part of February’s Sigmoid Volvulus month, Eva Angenete of Sahlgrenska University Hospital has kindly contributed a poster and a presentation on reducing the risk of recurrence in cases of sigmoid volvulus.
Angete is a co-author of Recurrence Risk of Sigmoid Volvulus - a Single Center Cohort Study (PDF). This poster was first presented at ESCP2017 in Berlin. The study has been accepted for publication in Colorectal Disease and can be found here.
The study evaluated the treatment of sigmoid volvulus from 2000 until 2016 at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden. One hundred and sixty-eight patients were included with a total of 453 admissions for sigmoid volvulus.
This presentation on Modern Management of Sigmoid Volvulus (PDF) outlines the study’s findings and recommended treatment pathway to reduce risk of recurrence.
