Dr Jeremy Meyer interviews Prof. Guillaume Meurette, past president of the French society of coloproctology, about guidelines for anal incontinence.

Professor Guillaume Meurette studied medicine at the University of Lille, where he graduated in 1997. He trained in general surgery residency in Nantes, France and Paris St Antoine between 1997 and 2002. Then he became specialist in digestive surgery. Professor Meurette then specialized in colorectal surgery at the University Hospitals of Brussels (Belgium) and obtained in European certification as specialist in coloproctology in 2010 (ESBQ). Professor Meurette was appointed Consultant surgeon at the University Hospitals of Nantes in 2008. He developed the surgical activities of the Division of Digestive surgery in the field of colorectal surgery, proctology and pelvic floor disorders. In parallel, Professor Meurette obtained his PhD for his research on Sacral Neuromodulation and Inflammatory digestive disorders at the INSERM-UMR Lab (The Enteric Nervous System, TENS Nantes France). Professor Meurette was appointed Professor of visceral surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Nantes in 2015, and president of the French society of coloproctology (2019-2022). He’s now consultant surgeon at Geneva university hospital (2022). He has published over 141 articles and book chapters and his H-index is 28.
