ESCP has announced a new communications sub-committee to drive social media activity across the society’s online platforms, tailoring content for the next generation of aspiring colorectal surgeons across Europe and beyond. The new social media committee, formed as part of the wider ESCP communications committee, will be led by Young-ESCP members Dr Zoe Garoufalia (Greece), honorary clinical fellow in the colorectal department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge; Dr Vittoria Bellato (Italy), colorectal surgery fellow at St. Mark’s Hospital, London; Dr Miguel Cunha (Portugal), final year general surgery trainee at Centro Hospitalar do Algarve - Portimão; and Rohan Gujjuri (UK), a fifth-year medical student at University of Birmingham, UK. One of the group’s main tasks will be to take ownership of ESCP’s new Instagram account, launched in March, while providing content and campaign ideas for its thriving and award-winning membership engagement campaign on Twitter. Commenting on their new roles, Zoe Garoufalia said: “I am really excited to start working with Vittoria, Miguel and Rohan to explore creative and impactful ways we can enhance ESCP’s social media offering and better engage with members.” Vittoria Bellato said, “ESCP has such a global appeal and following, allowing members to access important content and information easily in a manner of ways is vitally important.” Miguel Cunha commented: “Social media plays such an important role in the dissemination of quality scientific information and I am looking forward to the opportunity of helping shape how ESCP delivers this to a global audience.” Rohan Gujjuri added: “The new ESCP Instagram account is a great opportunity for ESCP to channel its philosophy of collaboration, community and communication to help reach and inspire a new generation of aspiring surgeons.”     Richard Brady, ESCP Communications Committee Chair, said: “The new team offers fresh impetus to drive forward our communications outputs for members, and in doing so connect to a new, younger generation of surgeons on social media. We’re excited to see what innovations the team comes up with in the coming weeks and months to add to membership engagement campaigns for our growing online community.” The new social media committee will also work closely with Grayling, ESCP’s PR and communications partner, who currently lead and run the society’s online communications platforms including escp.eu.com and escp_tweets.
