UEG Proctology Course led by ESCP experts now available online
Proctologic disorders are a widespread medical issue. Many healthcare professionals, from gastroenterologists to surgeons, will be regularly confronted with patients with a proctologic disease.
In collaboration with United European Gastroenterology (UEG), European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) experts Harald Rosen, Álvaro García-Granero, David Zimmerman and Eloy Espín have created an online course which provides state-of-the-art educational material on proctologic disorders.
We spoke with David Zimmerman, ESCP's representative on the European Union of Medical Specialists, and colorectal surgeon at Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (The Netherlands) about this highly educational tool.
David commented: “This online course is an absolute must for gastroenterologists and surgeons in training, but is also appropriate for other physicians, nurses, biotechnicians and medical students who have an interest in coloproctology.
“It’s a fantastic learning opportunity using the very latest information on the anatomy of the pelvic floor and the most common proctologic disorders of anal fissure and anal abscess and fistula.
“It was a pleasure to collaborate with UEG in order to develop and share these essential learnings, which will form the invaluable foundations of today’s surgeons’ knowledge.”
Eloy Espín, ESCP's President in Waiting and Professor of Surgery at the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain) added: “It’s an important course because it runs through the all-important basics of proctology. Attendees will learn the fundamental anatomy, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment paths for common proctological diseases.”
The course is split into two parts:
Proctology 1 - Anatomy, anal fissure and anal abscess and fistula with Harald Rosen et al.
Proctology 2 - Haemorrhoids and perianal skin conditions with Harald Rosen et al.
