General Abstract Submission Guidelines
ESCP will only accept abstracts not previously presented to or under consideration by another European or International forum that would conflict with the presentation at ESCP. ESCP will accept abstracts that have been presented at a national meeting, however, may choose not to publish it if it has already been published. Please ensure you declare all relevant details when you submit your abstract.
Abstract Topics
Abstracts are accepted on a wide range of topics in coloproctology. The submitter has to select the right topic for the abstract on the submission form.
Available topics are:
- Cancer
- Proctology
- Pelvic Floor
- IBD
- PROMS
- Misc.
- Diversity and Fairness
- *Randomized Trials Results
- Late Breaking Trials (June 2025 ONLY)
Several abstract sessions are scheduled during the Tripartite Colorectal Meeting: The Six Best, Free Paper, Elevator Pitch, and E-Posters.
Accepted abstracts will be available in the Colorectal Disease supplement.
NEW Randomized Trials Results Category
*This year, Abstract submission is invited for the presentation of major multicentre prospective trials results which will impact colorectal surgery on an international level. Please use the category 'Randomized Trials Results' within the abstract system.
If your full results are not yet available, you can still submit an abstract outlining the methodology and recruitment numbers at this stage for consideration. Any trial submitted now must be anticipated to be fully completed, analysed and ready to be shared publicly in September at the Paris meeting. Selected trials will be presented in the plenary 'Six of the Six Best' sessions within the following three categories: i] Cancer; ii] IBD; iii] Pelvic Floor & Proctology.
Please note that there will also be a short 'late-breaking abstracts' submission window in June 2025; this is only intended for additional major RCTs found to be ready for presentation at this late stage. The number of available slots for presentations will be very limited at this point, and authors should aim to submit their work within the main abstract call, if possible, by 22 April 2025.
For Randomized Trials still waiting for results there will be a window to edit your abstract in June 2025.
Abstract Submission Opening: 7 February 2025
Abstract Submission Deadline: 22 April 2025
Notifications to Submitters: end of May 2025

New Trials Submission Guidelines
Submissions relating to trials that are either new or ongoing are invited but require further recruitment on a national or international basis. Studies presented can be in any area of colorectal surgery but must be prospective and involve multiple centres. They can be of any format, including randomised trials and large-scale observational projects, and do not need to have started recruitment at the time of presentation in September.
Projects should be open to potential new centres to get involved (nationally or internationally) and at a stage where the discussions and feedback can be incorporated into improving the project.
The best trials will be selected on merit for presentation of protocol during the session. Presentations will be reviewed by a panel of experts.
The best new trial presentation will receive a prize of €300 awarded by ESCP.
Accepted abstracts will be available in the Colorectal Disease supplement.
