Spanish Society of Coloproctology (AECP): A Thriving Hub for Colorectal Training and Research

In 1964, Dr. Pedro de la Viesca founded the Spanish Proctological Society, laying the foundation for what would become the current Spanish Society of Coloproctology (Asociación Española de Coloproctología - AECP). Over the decades, this society has cultivated a rich tradition of excellence in colorectal surgery and training in Spain.

Under the leadership of Dr. Alberto Parajó, the AECP is reaching new heights of visibility and recognition. The society proudly offers two prestigious fellowships, several observerships, and multiple grants for research and international collaboration, reflecting its commitment to advancing colorectal care and education. Additionally, the Advanced Colorectal Unit Accreditation (Acredita AECP) ensures high-quality training standards and excellence in clinical practice across Spain.
