Dear Colleague,

Welcome to the Belgian page of the ESCP website.

Although Belgium is a small and young country, it lies in the heart of Europe, with Brussels as capital. In Belgium, there are two main communities living in the country, with three official country languages (French, Flemish, and German). The Flemish speaking part is in the north, while the French speaking part is in the south part of the country.

All surgeons are united in one single association: the Royal Belgian Society of Surgery (RBSS). Within the RBSS there is a section devoted to colorectal surgery: the Belgian Section of ColoRectal Surgery.

Currently the BSCRS organises during our national conference 'The Belgian Surgical Week' a session dedicated to colorectal surgery under the umbrella of the RBSS.

Furthermore, there is a yearly postgraduate course; a one-day course organized by the BSCRS on colorectal surgery topics focused for surgical trainees. Starting this year, we will organise a hands-on fistula course for trainees and fellows!

If you are interested, look at our renewed website of the BSCRS (www.rbss.be and select BSCRS section). The website is in full modernization-mode after a hibernation status for the last years, so do check this page regularly for updates.

In the future, we would like to develop a closer relationship between BSCRS activities and ESCP, starting with ESCP endorsement of our postgraduate course. We hope to make it happen by 2026!

Yours sincerely,

Ellen Van Eetvelde
